ROPLEY
Probably 'wood/clearing of Hroppa', a man's name which Ekwall explains as a short name for hypothetical 'Hrothbeorht' the English equivalent of Anglo Norman 'Robert'. The existence of named woods in the parish (eg 'Charlwood, Monkwood, Lyelands Wood') may suggest that 'clearing' is the proper translation for 'leah' in the parish name.
