Image 5 Example of the use of close-range photogrammetry to model gravestone surfaces. This is a digital elevation model (DEM) of two letters from a gravestone (C and H). The axis are in millimetres above an arbitrary reference plane. The gravestone was a relatively badly weathered one from Portsmouth and was selected to ensure that a DEM of surface forms could be obtained.
This area can also be viewed as a contour map. Note the two letters are at approximately the same height above an arbitrary reference plane.
